How to combat excessive hair loss?

I'm just hitting sixteen, but I lose like around 35 strands of hair (at least) everyday! This isn't normal! HELP!

How can I stop myself from losing all that hair? I have naturally wavy hair that's pretty thin to begin with, and it's barely shoulder length right now.

if you're wondering, i eat healthily but are there any foods that i should consume more of?How to combat excessive hair loss?
I understand your pain, I actually started losing my hair around 17 years old and was very frustrated. I completed a massive amount of research and consulted several dermatologists to see if there was a reason for the hair loss at an early age. Hair loss is not caused by your genes, it is actually caused when Dihydrtestoterone (DHT) enters the body, it cuts off the blood flow and the hair follicles begin to thin. I did not realize that hair loss is a direct cause of hormone testosterone. I can say that vitamins do work, preferably the whole food kind that is not synthetic. You cannot find these at Wal-Mart. You need to go to a whole food or natural health store/physician. Note that natural vitamins are made from foods which are the everyday nutrients that you may be missing in your diet . Natural vitamins can be taken without eating something because they are natural, like food. Synthetic vitamins have to be taken with food because they are not real and it is hard for them to breakdown in your body to give you what you need. This is a start because it slowed my hair loss down. How to combat excessive hair loss?
Here are some types of food that should help decreasing your hair loss.

Eating chickpeas and/or Roast Beef can help you get both zinc and the vitamin B-6 you need for healthy hair. Zinc has an important part in building hair protein.

Soy and Almonds contain a substantial amount of Iron and Vitamin E. Iron is an important part of hemoglobin production. Hemoglobin is responsible for getting oxygen to the tissues of the body. Without it your hair won't grow.

Vitamin E also helps with the absorption of oxygen and increasing blood circulation to the scalp.

Whole wheat is a good source of Silica and Iron. Silica is very important because it helps with the absorption of many other vitamins and minerals. It's usually not found in western diets and in many cases it is one of the main causes of hair loss.

Oranges (or orange juice) are a good source of Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is a big part of the development of collagen which is necessary for hair growth.

Fish is a good source of Vitamin A, Vitamin B-6, Protein and essential fatty acids which play a major role in maintaining healthy nails, hair and skin.
The Truth About Hair Loss

It is normal to shed hair every day and the truth is we loose between 100-125 hairs on any given day. Hair that is shed falls out at the end of growth cycle. At any given time 10% of our hair is in what is called a “resting phase” and after 2-3 months resting, hair falls out and new hair grows in its place. Some people, however, experience more hair loss than is normal.

As we get older, both men and women experience some hair loss. It’s a normal part of the aging process. Called Androgenetic Alopecia, it accounts for 95% of all hair loss. Androgentic Alopecia often runs in families and affects some people more than others. In men it is often referred to as Male Pattern Baldness.

It is characterized by a receding hair line and baldness on the top of head. Women, on the other hand, don’t go entirely bald even if their hair loss is severe. Instead, hair loss is spread out evenly over their entire scalp.

Hormones play the dominant role when talking about Androgenetic Alopecia. Simple put, both men and women produce testosterone. Testosterone can be converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) with the aid of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. DHT shrinks hair follicles causing the membranes in the scalp to thicken, become inelastic and restrict blood flow. This causes the hair follicles to atrophy. As a result, when a hair does fall out, it is not replaced.

Needless to say, men produce more testosterone than women and experience more hair loss.

While Androgenetic Alopecia is the number one reason why individuals experience hair loss, it is not the only one. Medical conditions such as hypothyroidism, ringworm and fungal infections can cause hair loss. Certain medications such as blood thinners, gout medication, birth control pills and too much vitamin A can cause sudden or abnormal hair loss as can following a crash diet, sudden hormonal changes, chemotherapy and radiation.

Emotional stress, pregnancy, or surgery can also cause our hair to fall out and is usually not noticed until 3-4 months after the stressful event has taken place. Stress can cause a slowing of new hair growth because a larger number of hair follicles enter into the resting phase and no new hair growth is experienced.

Another way in which individuals experience hair loss is due to mechanical stressors on the hair and scalp. Wearing pigtails, cornrows or tight rollers that end up pulling on the hair can scar the scalp and cause permanent hair loss. Hair products such as hot oil treatments and chemicals used for permanents can cause inflammation to the hair follicles which can also result in scarring and hair loss.

James L is right. The hair fall you are experiencing IS totally normal. We all lose up to 100 strands of hair per day. They mostly will show up when you shower. But if you are still worried about it, just continue to eat healthy. And check out some preventative measures listed in these articles:
My dad had been suffering from hair loss and only recently he started to see a huge difference with his hair (lots of fine hair growing out especially at the temple area) after trying out the various natural techniques taught to grow hair for 1 week at this website http://www.regrowmyhair.info

I must say its a very informative, effective and easy to follow step-by-step guide. I highly recommend it to anyone who is suffering from hair loss.

You should take plenty of green vegetables, fruits, sprouts, honey, cereals, nuts, grains, milk products. Eat fish if non-vegetarian or else take soybeans, and raw vegetable salads.
