Hair loss at 22 - serious problem?

I鈥檓 a 22 year old female and I鈥檝e been experiencing major hair loss for at least the past 6 or 7 months (I actually started noticing I was shedding more hair than usual about a year ago and it鈥檚 worsened in the past months). There is no family history of hair loss, test for thyroids, testosterone, and anemia all came back just fine. Blood count was also fine. According to my blood test so far, I am perfectly healthy. I know it鈥檚 not stress because wellI鈥檓 not stressed. Even the Dr. ruled out stress as a cause. I am a fairly healthy person as far as I knowI don鈥檛 eat horribly and I exercise regularly. A hair dresser suggested taking vitamins as he thought I could be lacking something in my diet. I have been taking the vitamins for over 3 months now and there has been no change. It has been established that the hair loss is an internal issue because it is being lost from the root, not breaking off. I don鈥檛 know what to do anymore; I just want it to stop. I use to have a head full of thick wavy hair and now it鈥檚 so thin it makes me what to cry. Does anyone have suggestions on what to do, or what it could be? Is there something else I should bring up to the Dr? Should I get a 2nd opinion? I have to fix this!!Hair loss at 22 - serious problem?
Hi Jane. My heart goes out to you. I am going through the same thing right now, except i know what's causing my hair loss. You need to go to as many doctors as you can afford to, to find the answer ( because there definitely is one ). Most doctors do not take hair loss seriously because they don't consider it to be a life threatening condition ( it sure has been for me tho ). I have become so depressed because of this, i have been suicidal. I have a thyroid problem, and even though i am on medication, i can't stop the hair loss. By the way, a thyroid test can come back normal, and you still can have a thyroid problem. It's best to recheck again. Anyways, hair does not fall out like this for no reason, there's always an answer. You need to find a doctor that cares enough to take the time to find out what that reason is. I'm soooo sorry you have to go through this because i know how upsetting it can be. I use to have beautiful thick hair also. Now it's really thin, and i cry everytime i look at it. I don't go out anymore because of it. Just keep trying to find the answer. Hang in there %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;HUGS%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Hair loss at 22 - serious problem?
Are your periods normal? My sister in law had this problem and her periods were always irregular. She also couldn't concieve after five years of trying, come to find out she had polycistic ovary syndrome. This syndrome has numerous symptoms, including hair loss. Maybe talk to your doctor or go an endocrologist (Dr. for hormones) and they can check out your hormones in your body. It's actually a fairly common thing, and has easy fixes.
it could be alopecia it a condition that makes your hair fall out, I think they make rogain for woman you could try that or ask your doc if they think it could be alopecia
Well I honestly have no idea but my older sister had some liver problems and it caused her to shed globs of hair until they found out what was wrong.
